Long serial connections are operation system independent and can be implemented via Ethernet without drivers.

The ipEther232.PPP Ethernet Converter enables the transfer of network packets from serial interfaces into the Ethernet (PPP = Point to Point Protocol). This unique PPP Converter offers you a simple cost-effective solution for exchanging TCP/IP packets between serial interfaces and the network. Consequently, you may connect any serial PPP-capable device to the Ethernet.
