Serial Devices to Network over Power Grid

The RS232/485 dLAN Converter enables the connection of serial devices to local networks with data communication implemented via 230V AC power lines.

With ipEther232.dLAN, you are as flexible as never before, since it enables you to connect serial (RS232) devices to your Ethernet anywhere in the building via 230V power lines. This allows you to easily bridge distances of up to 200 meters depending on the damping factor.

Frequent relocations of serial devices will no longer be a problem - you simply plug the devolo dLAN adapter into a different socket. No need to lay down additional cables, this saves time and expenses. The electric meter serving as a physical barrier and 56bit encryption ensure data security. With data transmission rates of up to 14 Mbit/s, dLAN is even faster than the current wireless WIFITM standard for home applications.

Application

The RS232-dLAN solution provides both a serial (RS232) and an Ethernet interface allowing you to connect devices to an Ethernet via 230 V power lines. Optionally, you can connect further Ethernet devices using a hub, and all connections can be used independently. Up to 10 dLAN adapters can transmit data simultaneously in a building. You require 2 dLAN adapters to set up an Ethernet connection.

Parameterizing

The parameterization of ipEther232 is performed locally via Ethernet with a Windows NT4 / 2000 / XP interface. The delivered CD ROM includes the driver set-up program and configuration software enabling fast and easy configuration. Each connected ipEther Converter of identical product type is recognized automatically. The included configuration software makes it just as easy to configure the devolo dLAN converters.
