Serial to Ethernet via Virtual COM port

The RS232 to Ethernet interface converter enables the simple integration of serial RS232/RS485 devices into Ethernet networks via Virtual COM port. It also allows users to link up older machines and systems with modern networks and computer systems. Extensive added software packages developed in-house support a wide range of applications of ipEther232, which makes this interface converter a convincing choice with a well-balanced cost/performance ratio.

The RS232/RS485 Ethernet Interface Converter provides you with both an RS232/RS485 and an Ethernet interface for data communication. The RS232/485 interface allows you to link up several systems, machines, or devices that support this connection type. The interface converter ipEther232 can be integrated easily into PC networks, and by connecting RS232/RS485 devices to the network, it allows users to access RS232/RS485 devices via computer workplaces or clients.

Standard application (Virtual COM port)

The interface converter is installed under MS Windows via virtual COM port. Included in the delivery are: Virtual COM port drivers for the integration of the software within this operating system, emulating an RS232/RS485 interface under NT, 2000, and XP. These drivers provide one virtual COM port per interface converter. During the configuration, each serial to Ethernet converter is assigned its own IP address, and can then be used as a normal serial connection. This enables standard software programs to continue communicating with RS232/RS485 devices. The serial to Ethernet converter (interface converter) is also suitable for large-scale technical installations, since it allows you to integrate up to 254 devices into the network via virtual COM port. ipcas has developed the ipEther232.Modem specially for operating system-independent solutions. As in the standard version, the connected serial to Ethernet converters (interface converters) with modem function are recognized automatically by the configuration software and assigned a freely configurable IP address (see figure 2.2). Each of the interface converters knows the IP address of its "communication partner", which unambiguously determines the transmission path.
