Serial-Ethernet Converter networks a Simatic S7 (PLC) - without PPI cable

Installation and configuration instructions

Hardware components:
Simatic S7-200, test motor (output simulator),
RS485 cable (Sub-D plugs), ipEther232 24V DIN-Rail, 24V power pack, network cable

1. Wiring
  • Mount an connect the RS485 Kabel
  • Connect ipEther232 (Serial-Ethernet Converter) with power pack and network cable (Ethernet)
  • Connect ipEther232 (Serial-Ethernet Converter) to the Simatic S7 with a PPI cable

Cable termination is required for RS485 connections in termination networks in order to enforce quiescent levels on bus systems whenever no data transmitters are active. The termination network is set via jumper blocks 6, 7 and 8 (integrated in the ipEther485 casing). For details concerning pin allocations and jumper settings, please read the sections "Plug assignment" and "RS485 module" in the ipEther232 manual.
