ipEther232 Firmware Updates
(Downloads of older versions: configuration tools, firmware, manuals)
Important notes on different versions
Please check whether the desired update firmware is compatible with your ipEther232 hardware!
Firmware and configuration tools of the individual versions might be incompatible with one another.
Updates take place in consecutive version steps.
No firmware version may be skipped.
Only as of Version 10, may you jump immediately to the most current update version.
The possible update version steps are: 1 -> 2 -> 3 -> 4 -> 10 -> above 10
When you make an update over several versions, please observe the required consecutive order of update steps!
Fore example:
An update from Version 3 to Version 12 is made in steps from Version 3 to Version 4, then from Version 4 to Version 10 and, finally, from Version 10 to Version 12.
Please note: It is not possible to operate simultaneously with an ipEther232 configuration tool of versions lower than 10 and another configuration tool (ipEther232, ipEther232.PPP, ipNTP, ipEther232.IO,
ipEther232.Modem, ipEther232.Telnet) of versions higher than 10.

11 or 12?
Updates from Version 4 to 10
Firmware and configuration tools of Version 4 are incompatible with Version 10.
Both configuration tools may not be installed at the same time.
If Version 10 is already installed, it must be removed before installing Version 4.
- Install configuration tool Version 4 (only if it has not yet been installed)!
- Please make sure that only one ipEther232 is installed!
- Perform the firmware update with configuration tool Version 4 now!
- Upload the new firmware Version 10 in the item "Firmware"!

and then close the configuration tool.
- Uninstall configuration tool Version 4 after the successful update. ("add/remove programs" in the control panel)
- Install configuration tool Version 10.
- Open configuration tool Version 10.
- Assign a correct IP adress with "Set IP"
- After the successful assignment of the IP address, the "arp cache" must be deleted. This takes place in the "command shell (cmd)"
using the instruction: arp -d <IP-address>.
- Open configuration tool Version 10. Please make sure that only one ipEther232 is connected to the network.
- As soon as the ipEther232 is marked in the configuration tool, press "Ctrl+M" to correct the MAC address.
The MAC address is located at the bottom of the ipEther232 casing and is designated as S/N.
(In OEM versions, the MAC address is labled on a sticker at the top of the circuit board.)
- Enter the MAC adress and make sure that it is correct. Wrong input can cause substantial network problems.
- After the successful change of MAC adresses (see configuration tool entries), the arp cache (command shell) must be deleted again with
arp -d <IP-adress>.
- Now, the ipEther232 should be able to be found and work with firmware Version 10.x as well as configuration tool 10.
- It is not possible to use both configuration tool versions 10 and 4 on the same computer.
- Direct firmware updates from versions 4 or smaller to versions 10 or higher are not possible. Please read the next section for this.
- For further updates on higher number versions, please proceed as described in "Updates from Version 10 to Version 11".
